A crowd of over 40 parishioners and bell ringers gathered in Napier Hall to celebrate St David’s Day and to raise money for Appeal for a Peal.
The event had a very Welsh flavour right from the start with daffodils on the tables and a patriotic colour scheme. The lunch began with Grace said in Welsh.
The menu included Glamorgan Sausages, Lamb Cawl, Caerphilly and other Welsh Cheeses, Welsh cakes and Bara brith. The food was accompanied by a choice of Welsh Beers and there was also an Eisteddfod, featuring music by the Welsh composer Stephen Goss, poetry by R S Thomas and Dylan Thomas and much more.
The occasion concluded with a (slightly bowdlerised) rendition of Max Boyce’s “Hymns and Arias”, with the guests joining in the patriotic chorus of: “And we were singing, hymns and arias, Land of my fathers, Ar hyd y nos”.
